Mumbai Indians Experiment With AI-driven Storytelling In WPL Campaign
Mumbai Indians’ latest Women’s Premier League campaign is harnessing technology for sports storytelling, using AI-driven cloning to unite 15 MI women cricketers in a single cinematic narrative.
Conceptualised by FCB Kinnect and created by Studio Blo, the campaign moves away from conventional shoot logistics and instead leverages AI-led workflows to digitally recreate and unify multiple athletes capturing performances, emotions, and presence at scale. The result is a seamless, high-impact cinematic experience that would have been extremely complex to execute through traditional production methods.
Industry insiders note that this approach not only enhances speed and scalability but also enables creative ambition without the usual constraints associated with multi-talent shoots. The execution signals how technology is beginning to play a more serious role in mainstream sports storytelling, especially as leagues and teams look to deepen fan engagement.
Studio Blo has been exploring the use of artificial intelligence in advertising and entertainment, focusing on practical, cinematic applications that integrate AI into real-world production workflows to address creative and operational challenges.
Rishabh Suri, Co-founder and Chief Content Officer of Studio Blo commented, “This project was never about showcasing technology for the sake of it. The intention was to preserve the emotion, intensity, and individuality of each athlete while creating a unified cinematic language. AI became the enabler, allowing us to scale storytelling in a way that would otherwise be extremely complex, time-consuming, and restrictive.”
He further added, “Equally important was consent and collaboration. We worked closely with each player to ensure they were comfortable with how their likeness and performance were represented. As AI evolves, conversations around consent, image rights, and ethical usage become central and we’re actively building those frameworks into how we work.”
Beyond its technical achievement, the campaign is also being viewed as a significant moment for women’s sports marketing, presenting female athletes in a bold, cinematic, and future-forward light. As AI continues to integrate into creative industries, this Mumbai Indians (WPL) campaign offers a glimpse into what the future of sports storytelling could look like where technology amplifies emotion rather than replacing it.
